THE FEATURES ⭐

Dentro (12m 39s, HD)

I have no idea what is going on here. There are two guys building something in the woods. Lots of miscellaneous shots of the woods. Then one guy dies by dumping a whole bunch of dirt on himself. Then the credits roll.

Videohome (10m 55s, HD)

Again, no idea what is going on. There are four guys this time, all in different places. They start playing with themselves and dry humping furniture. They climax and the short is over. ???

Virginie Selavy on We Are the Flesh (36m 21s, HD)

This is a video essay/interview with Miss Selavy. I have never heard of her before, but it seems that she is some type of critic. She is clearly in love with the film as she spends a lot of time talking about the themes and the whatnot of the film. I hated the film so this was a chore to sit through. However, I do like these video essays that Arrow has been putting on some of their discs, so I am glad that it is here for those who like the film or what the learn something about the film.

Emiliano Rocha Minter Interview (18m 20s, HD)

Noé Hernández Interview (20m 20s, HD)

Maria Ivoli Interview (13m 09s, HD)

Diego Gamaliel Interview (13m 30s, HD)

As you can see, there are a number of special features and most of them run for more than ten minutes, but these are FOR FANS ONLY type of special features. By that I mean that sometimes there are films that I did not like, but found myself enjoying the special features and sometimes gaining more of an appreciation for the film. Not with this film though. The special features, like the film itself, do nothing but provide white noise to my ears. I know people are talking but I could care less about what they are talking about. The film was pretentious dribble and so are the features.

THE PACKAGING: N/A

This disc was sent to me for review. I was not sent the packaging or the booklet that comes with the disc. Knowing Arrow, the package will include a reversible cover and booklet with essays about the film and info about the transfer.

THE PICTURE ⭐⭐⭐

Arrow has given us a nice transfer here. There is a good amount of detail throughout, but the filmmakers have employed many different post-production effects to the picture (in many of the hallucinatory scenes) that brings down the level of detail. All in all, the picture is the best thing about this release.

THE SOUND ⭐⭐⭐

The first thing that you will notice about the film is that there isn't a lot of dialogue, so there is nothing to grade in that aspect. There is a low level rumble that is heard throughout the film that helps give the film an atmosphere. All of this is nice and clear and there is a nice immersive feel to the track.

THE FILM   ZERO STARS

I am going to get this out of the way now: I HATE THIS FILM! Every second of me watching this film could have been better spent doing something else. I could have mowed the lawn (even though it it is winter right now), I could have shoveled the roof (there is no snow and why would I shovel the roof anyways). The point being is that there was everything else that I could be doing except watching this film.

I have no idea who this film is made for. In the special features, one of the directors that this film's director had in mind was Jodorowsky, who is known for making head trip type films. But where Jodorowsky had a point to his madness, the director here has none. He thinks that by throwing a slew of shocking things at us is enough for the film to stand on.

The director fills the film with moments that we wish that we could never have seen in the first place and think that this is some form of meaningful art. While it may be to some, I found the film to be surprisingly juvenile. The shocking moments and scenes in the film are something that a ten year old would come up with because he thought it was funny. Except here the director thinks that he is making some profound statement.

When I received this disc in the mail, I got kind of happy. I saw the title of the film and assumed that the film would be a horror film in the vein of something that Clive Barker would make. I didn't even read the press kit stuff that came with the disc. I just put it in and started watching. After I was done with the film (yes, I did watch the entire thing) I swore to myself that I will at least glance at the press kit before watching any film I don't know about.

We Are The Flesh comes off as pretentious, post-apocalyptic porn (and not even good porn) filmed through the mind of someone who is tripping their balls off. The film makes no sense and worse of all it tries to make us think that it is about something when it really isn't. This is the type of film that normal people think film students make, you know, the kind that end with FIN. I wish that the film started with FIN and then ended.

OVERALL ⭐⭐

We Are The Flesh is a horrible film, filled with images that you would wish that your worst enemy could see, The film is a pretentious piece of trash that should be buried deep inside of a bargain bin. The blu-ray from Arrow is up to their usual high standards though. The picture and sound are really good and, while the special features are not good at all, they are here for those that like the film. Arrow put a lot of time and effort into this disc and they should be praised for it, I just wish that they had spent the time and money on a film that was good.
