What's It About?

(from Nameless Media website) (original German)

Computer salesman Hochman acts as a mentally degenerate “address book killer”. his mischief. No one has been able to figure him out yet. He dies in a car accident on the way to the next victim. Unsuspecting doctors use the latest technology to try to save the man's life. The man suddenly dies during the computer tomography. A happy ending for society? if there hadn't been a thunderstorm at the same time that fed Hochman's sick soul into the city's power grid. From now on he is THE KILLER IN THE SYSTEM and continues to murder. Nobody seems to be able to stop him. (English translation)

Video/Audio

Nameless Media brings GHOST IN THE MACHINE to blu-ray with a very satisfying transfer. First off, the film is presented in it's original aspect ratio of 1.85:1. I figured Nameless would have opened it up to a 1.78:1 but they didn't. I am so thankful for that. Second, there is a nice layer of grain throughout the film with it jumping up a bit during darker scenes. Colors are strong and skin tones look good. I did not see any black crush nor did I see any DNR. I am happy with how the film looks here.

Extras/Packaging

Trailer 2m 10s, SD, 1.33:1)
Teaser (33s, SD, 1.33:1)

GHOST IN THE MACHINE (DER KILLER IM SYSTEM) comes to us courtesy of German label Nameless Media. The front cover is really lame with the killer and some computer graphics behind him. The cover is reversible with both covers being the exact same except for the German rating is not present on the reverse cover.

Overall

GHOST IN THE MACHINE (DER KILLER IM SYSTEM) is a favorite 90s horror film of mine. I have many fond memories of watching films like GHOST IN THE MACHINE, DEAD ALIVE (BRAINDEAD), BAD MOON, and so many other horror flicks released in the 90s. I find it to be endlessly entertaining and has a good pace and feel. The film at times feels like a FINAL DESTINATION film (or rather the FINAL DESTINATION films feel like GHOST IN THE MACHINE). The film is goofy as hell but that's the film's charm. The film is a ton of fun and doesn't overstay its welcome.

I am so thankful for Nameless Media for releasing GHOST IN THE MACHINE (DER KILLER IM SYSTEM) on blu-ray. The film is trapped in the Disney vaults (the film was released by 20th Century Fox in the States). I love this film so much and I never thought I would see the film get a blu-ray release. The picture and audio quality are both great but the lack of special features (we get teaser and theatrical trailers but nothing else.) is disappointing. Still, the lack of special features should not dissuade you from buying this release. This is a must-own.
