Retromedia Announces Three "On Demand" Releases for August

Retromedia has announced they are adding three more titles to their "Retromedia On Demand" line. Two of these titles are rereleases that have been lone OOP (out of print) (THE ALIEN FACTOR and BIOHAZARD) with one title (GRAVE DESIRES) being brand new to the format. 

As with all of the "On Demand" titles, these releases with be on BD-Rs. I know some people out there won't buy a BD-R but I am fine with it if it comes from a small boutique label like Retromedia. It helps keep costs down and they guarantee these discs for ten years. These three releases begin shipping at the end of August.

Director Don Dohler's homage to the classic sci-fi 1950's creature features, THE ALIEN FACTOR (1978), has endured the passage of time to become the standard "comfort food" for a generation of eager aficionados. Filmed in Baltimore, Maryland by a collection of never-say-die, hardcore fans, the movie boasts a gaggle of monster suits, clever miniatures and even a stop-motion beast brought to life by, then aspiring, animation wizard, Ernest D. Farino (THE TERMINATOR). Local actors Don Leifert, Dick Dyszel, Eleanor Herman and George Stover infuse the film with an enthusiastic zest that belies the film's tiny budget, adding immeasurably to the charm that is THE ALIEN FACTOR.

Filmed over the course of two years, BIOHAZARD (1983-84) was Fred Olen Ray's follow up to his movie SCALPS and features much of the same cast and crew. This time around the creature was played by the director's 5-year-old son, Chris Olen Ray. Genre favorites Angelique Pettyjohn (MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND, STAR TREK), Aldo Ray (THE GREEN BERETS) and Carroll Borland (MARK OF THE VAMPIRE) were pressed into service for added "name value". The end result was a campy, quirky "everything but the kitchen sink" monster fest!
