MVD Visual has announced they are bringing the Bikini Carwash Company films to Blu-ray is a double pack as part of their Rewind Collection on May 15th, 2025.
This collection was announced a few weeks ago but it was met with a lot of negativity due to MVD upscaling the SD sources with AI, something no one wants. They were also releasing the films in their R-rated versions which cut out almost all of the nudity and sex scenes. MVD heard the complaints and is trying to get people back on their side. While this release announcement had gone live earlier than we had originally expected, let this post serve as the more "official announcement” for MVD Entertainment Group / MVD Rewind Collection's (#64) release of "The Bikini Carwash Company I & II: Double Feature"!
As previously mentioned (but will reiterate here), BOTH of these films were low budget films that were shot on standard definition videotape. HD masters for these films do not exist. As such, in order to present these films in the best possible quality, both feature films have been up-converted, re-mastered and upgraded from their original standard definition 480p resolution to high definition 1080p resolution using the latest advanced up-conversion technology and are presented in their originally intended 1.33:1 aspect ratios in order to provide the best possible viewing experience.
Also... I am well aware there are SEVERAL / MANY different versions of these films with different running times (especially for the first film). As it is, what we have here represents the only (and the "longest") masters that were made available and provided to us. Yes, we are well aware that there may be a slightly different version (or versions) of both of these films out there that we do not have. What is described below is what is on these discs. For the first film ("The Bikini Car Wash"), the main feature up-converted to HD runs 77 minutes (this slightly shorter running time master was the best quality master provided to us and used for up-conversion). We have included an alternate version in SD as a bonus feature that runs slightly longer at about 81 mins. Unfortunately, we cannot specify the differences between the two versions other than to tell you that the SD version runs about 4 minutes longer and may / likely have scenes, footage, or alternate takes. We chose not to use this master for up-conversion because the quality of this master was not equal to the slightly shorter version.
For "The Bikini Carwash II", the running time on both the main, up-converted HD feature AND the SD version is 94 minutes. This 94 minute SD version is being included as a bonus feature and came from a different source than that of the main version we up-converted. Again, not sure if there are differences between the two, BUT since the SD version came from a different source other than the licensor, we are including it, just in case. It could be the same. It could be different. I dunno. Either way, we chose to include it, just in case, because, why not?!
